Micayla first started teaching voice after her own American Idol audition in 2002 turned into an impromptu vocal training workshop, as other auditionees were waiting for their turn in front of the judges. Micayla was warming up and preparing for her own audition, when a large crowd gathered around her and started asking for tips and techniques to help them with their auditions. Micayla gladly gave individual lessons to about 60+ people that day and the Idol camera's caught it on tape and interviewed her about it. After having to turn people away because she had to prepare for her own audition, she decided that she should look into teaching.
